Ready for the world

A college recently converted to a university. A library equipped with an Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) System. An institution wired to the Internet. An administration composed of pro-active people. These make Southern Luzon State University (SLSU) an ideal partner of the Commission on Information and Communication Technology in its iSchools program.

The University is not only a prime mover in providing quality education for the students, but is also a believer in tying learning to the surging progress of technology. More than that, SLSU is known as an associate of the people in community development. It was, therefore, a natural decision for the administration to say yes to an undertaking which will help other academic institutions in their own quest for greater knowledge.

The iSchools program is quite young, being only in its third year. But the University is happy to be a part of this worthwhile endeavor. The program now prides itself of having had the chance to serve 360 schools all over the country.

Problem areas

Of course, the project is not without difficulties. “There are problems that I encountered during the site visits, for example, with regards to the location of the candidate school and the transportation,” Engr. Milo Placino, Project Manager of the iSchools in SLSU, said.

But when he talked to the people in the different schools, he cannot help but notice that they are very excited and supportive of the project.

Are we ready?

When asked whether the University can really help in the delivery of this project to the high schools or not, Sir Milo had these to say, “Yes, we are ready, our faculty is ready, and we are going to do this worthwhile endeavor.”
